On October 26th, 2019, our event bunting was featured in a Day of the Dead event at the awesome ANIMA Casa Rural. ANIMA is an organic farm, cum bed and breakfast and artist residency center that is run by our friend and collaborator Julian Calleros.
ANIMA resides on some acreage near San Isidro Mazatepec in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, where our ARTMEXICO headquarters are also based. They have vegetables, cows, goats, various chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, rabbits, sheep, dogs and cats and the new addition of two Vietnamese pigs on the property.
For the second year in a row, Julian looked to organized a Day of the Dead event featuring Son Jarocho group La Marea Fandanguera, Aztec dancing by MEXIKA TIAWI TLALO KTEKUTLI, and art by Geovanni Ibarra, Xilotei Barra, and the Colectivo Mazatepec. Beers from local craft brewery Cuatro Plumas and locally made tamales, pozole and other delicious snacks were available.
Julian curated the event to include 8 of ARTMEXICO's Day of the Dead event bunting and 8 of our Halloween event bunting. The event decorations were strung up over two imaginations of the Day of the Dead shrines so popularly associated with the holiday.
The remainder adorned the vine-laced patio roof. The effect was a subtle nod to the roots of the holiday, but with the modern twist that ANIMA is quickly becoming known for.
The performances led to a hangout and songs provided by local youth around a huge bonfire. Many participants brought tents to sleep around the vast property that constitutes ANIMA. Awaken by various rooster species in the morning, the event concluded with a coffee and sweet tamale breakfast as guests began to trickle off down the winding road.
We always feel so rejuvenated when we stay at ANIMA. Thanks for including us n this year's addition of your wonderful event, Julian!
